Overall Performance:

Rayane, you crushed it out there at the Hyrox competition! Finishing in 1:20:25 puts you in the top 33% of a whopping 3324 athletes—talk about making a statement! 🏆 Your performance in the 25-29 age group was solid as well, landing you at 297 out of 859. That’s nothing to sneeze at!

Your total running time of 39:12 is actually faster than average by 16 seconds, which suggests you’ve got a strong runner profile. You can definitely hold your own on the track! However, there’s always room for improvement, so let's take a look at your pacing. The initial segments showed you started out a bit too fast, particularly with your first running segment (4:38)—a good 16 seconds faster than average. This may have set a challenging tone for the later stages of the race.

Your strengths lie in your overall running ability, but we’ll need to work on your strength segments to bring your overall performance up to the next level. Remember, “You can’t hurt me,” as David Goggins would say, but let’s make sure you’re not just running fast, but also lifting heavy! 💪

Segments & Race Analysis:

Here's a quick breakdown of how your segments stacked up against others:

Running 1: 4:38 (+0:16 from average) - A strong start, but you paid for it later.
Ski Erg: 4:23 (-0:01 from average) - Nice job, but there’s still room for speed here.
Running 2: 4:47 (+0:09 from average) - Slight decline; pacing was starting to show.
Sled Push: 3:44 (+0:57 from average) - This is where we need some serious work.
Running 3: 5:07 (+0:09 from average) - The fatigue is kicking in.
Sled Pull: 5:27 (+0:51 from average) - We can definitely improve here.
Running 4: 4:54 (-0:03 from average) - Holding steady, but not quite enough.
Burpees Broad Jump: 5:37 (+0:38 from average) - This segment can be a game-changer.
Running 5: 4:51 (-0:15 from average) - Solid recovery but still a bit slow.
Rowing: 4:53 (+0:11 from average) - Not your strongest segment; let’s boost that.
Farmers Carry: 2:00 (-0:03 from average) - Quick and efficient, nice work!
Running 6: 4:50 (-0:09 from average) - You’re hanging in there.
Running 7: 4:53 (-0:05 from average) - Showing signs of fatigue.
Sandbag Lunges: 5:54 (+1:06 from average) - This is the segment that needs the most love!
Running 8: 5:17 (-0:11 from average) - Still pushing through, but the time is slipping.
Wall Balls: 4:19 (-1:51 from average) - Ouch! This is your biggest struggle; we need to focus here.
Roxzone: 5:00 (-1:30 from average) - A bit of a slow transition—let’s tighten this up.

Overall, your segments tell a story of a strong runner who needs to bolster their strength training. Your pacing strategy might need some tweaks, especially in the early parts of the race. In Hyrox, every second counts, and those transitions can be the difference between a personal best and just another race. 💥

Segments to Improve:

Here’s the game plan for the segments that you really need to focus on:

Sandbag Lunges: Current Time: 5:54 | Target Time: 4:29 | Potential Improvement: 1:25 | Focus during training: 22%

To improve this segment, incorporate lunges with heavier weights, and practice dynamic lunges to build explosive power. Try doing sets of 10-15 reps with a focus on form. As you improve, decrease rest time between sets to simulate race conditions. Aim to do these twice a week.

Sled Push: Current Time: 3:44 | Target Time: 2:32 | Potential Improvement: 1:12 | Focus during training: 19%

For the sled push, work on your leg strength and power output. Perform heavy sled pushes with lower weights at maximum effort for short distances (10-20 meters). Combine this with leg press and squat workouts for strength building. Also, practice your technique to ensure you are pushing efficiently.

Sled Pull: Current Time: 5:27 | Target Time: 4:17 | Potential Improvement: 1:10 | Focus during training: 18%

This segment requires both upper and lower body strength. Incorporate resistance band pulls and rows into your routine. Focus on pulling with your back and legs, not just your arms. Short, explosive pulls for 10-20 meters can help simulate the race.

Burpees Broad Jump: Current Time: 5:37 | Target Time: 4:36 | Potential Improvement: 1:01 | Focus during training: 16%

Work on your burpees by adding explosive jumps right after each rep. Try to minimize rest time between reps. For broad jumps, focus on your landing technique to get more distance while maintaining control. Aim for 3 sets of 15 reps, focusing on speed.

Total Running Time: Current Time: 39:12 | Target Time: 38:14 | Potential Improvement: 0:58 | Focus during training: 15%

To improve your overall running time, focus on interval training. Incorporate longer runs mixed with speed intervals at race pace or faster. Hill sprints are also a great way to build endurance and speed. Target running at least three times a week.

Rowing: Current Time: 4:53 | Target Time: 4:37 | Potential Improvement: 0:16 | Focus during training: 4%

Rowing can often be overlooked, but it’s crucial! Focus on your technique, ensuring you are engaging your core with each stroke. Aim for longer intervals (500m) at a higher intensity. Consider adding rowing sessions twice a week to maximize your efficiency.

As you work on these segments, keep in mind that every bit of improvement counts. Focus on maintaining proper form to prevent injuries, and remember to recover adequately. As Jocko Willink says, “Discipline equals freedom.” So let’s harness that discipline! 💪

Race Strategies:

Now that we’ve identified your areas for improvement, let’s talk strategy:

Start Steady: Begin your race at a pace that feels sustainable. Resist the urge to sprint out of the gate. Think of it as a marathon, not a sprint—your legs will thank you later!
Transition Smoothly: Pay attention to your transitions (Roxzone). Practice moving efficiently between exercises. Consider using a stopwatch to time your transitions during training to decrease rest time.
Break it Down: Mentally segment the race into smaller parts. Focus on each segment rather than the entire race. This will help manage fatigue and keep your motivation high.
Fuel Wisely: Make sure you’re fueling up properly before and during the race. Hydration and a good pre-race meal can make a world of difference. “Eat to compete,” as they say!
Visualize Success: Spend time visualizing your race strategy. Picture yourself executing each segment perfectly, which can help build confidence.

With these strategies, you’ll be able to navigate your next Hyrox race with the finesse of a seasoned pro! Remember, “Success isn’t given; it’s earned,” so let’s get to work! 💥

Conclusion:

Rayane, you have a fantastic foundation to build upon! Your strong running ability is a great asset, but it’s time to elevate your strength segments to match your speed. As you prepare for your upcoming races in 2026—like the MAYBELLINE HYROX PARIS GRAND PALAIS and HYROX London—keep pushing your limits and refining your training. You’ve already shown you can compete at a high level, but let’s turn those weaknesses into strengths!

Keep in mind that every race is a learning opportunity, and with determination, you can achieve your goals. “The only way to get better is to push your limits,” so keep striving for greatness. And remember, if you feel like giving up, just think about why you started in the first place! Let’s crush it! 💪
