Overall Performance:

Imogen, you are sprinting your way into the top 92% of athletes—let that sink in! Finishing 1541 overall out of 1663 is impressive, especially when you're keeping pace in a highly competitive field. You’ve got a solid running background that really shows through your overall times, especially with a total running time of 35:11, which is a significant 24 minutes faster than the average. You clearly have the raw speed for the running segments, and you can build even more strength to complement it. Your initial pacing was a bit on the slower side—perhaps you were saving energy, but you can definitely pick up the momentum in the first segment to build better confidence throughout the race.

Segments & Race Analysis:

Let's break this down a bit more! You took a cautious approach in your first run segment, clocking in at 03:35, putting you at the 8th percentile. That may have thrown a wrench in your momentum and pacing for the rest of the race. But don’t worry; you bounced back nicely in later segments, especially when you hit that best running lap at 03:04—talk about finding your flow! You’ve shown some of the best performances in strength segments, being in the 99th percentile in the Ski Erg. However, we can definitely see areas for consolidation where improvements can bring those late segments up to par with your running prowess. Remember, it’s not about how you start, but how you finish—make sure your start sets you up for a strong finish! 💥

Segments to Improve:

You have segments that clearly stand out for improvement, and with some focused training, I’m confident you can turn these areas into strengths. Here’s what we’re looking at:

Wall Balls (Current: 20:09 | Potential Improvement: 11:10 | Focus During Training: 51%)
This is your most significant area for improvement—an extra 11 minutes shaved off this time would really boost your performance. Target those wall balls with high-rep drills. Try to perform sets of 20-30 reps with a light medicine ball or no weight, focusing on form to perfect your squat while keeping your core engaged. As you become more comfortable, gradually increase the weight or reps. Work towards AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) in 10-15 minutes. And remember, it's all about finding your rhythm!
Sandbag Lunges (Current: 11:48 | Potential Improvement: 04:56 | Focus During Training: 22%)
Sandbag lunges need some love! Target lunges with heavier sandbags while focusing on constant movement—no pausing in between lunges! Increase your distance and reps every week. Consider a variety of lunges—reverse, forward, and lateral to help build full range strength. Throw in some plyometric lunges to improve explosive power!
Burpees Broad Jump (Current: 11:28 | Potential Improvement: 02:15 | Focus During Training: 10%)
Burpee broad jumps can be a killer on the legs! Practice the transition between the two movements—smooth, explosive, and efficient. Aim for quality over quantity to ensure you’re not burning more energy than needed. Work on 30-second intervals where you do 10 broad jumps and then 5 burpees, resting 60-90 seconds in between to build up your endurance.
Farmers Carry (Current: 04:00 | Potential Improvement: 01:05 | Focus During Training: 5%)
Farmers carries resonate with strength! Focus on posture while carrying weights over longer distances. It's simple—grab those kettlebells or dumbbells, and keep walking. Start with manageable weight, and gradually increase as you become more comfortable with the movement. Don't forget about grip strength; static holds with heavier weights at the end of your lifts can enhance grip endurance!
Sled Pull (Current: 08:31 | Potential Improvement: 00:52 | Focus During Training: 4%)
The sled requires brute force! Set intervals to pull a weighted sled for short distances—ideally 15-20 meters. Make each pull explosive, and work on your resting time to minimize fatigue, allowing you to maximize effort in each pull.
Ski Erg (Current: 06:25 | Potential Improvement: 00:42 | Focus During Training: 3%)
Keep the pull strong and steady. Work on matching your leg drive with the movements of your arms to maximize your efficiency. Integrate short bursts, targeting consistency at fast paces to help build your conditioning.
Rowing (Current: 06:39 | Potential Improvement: 00:36 | Focus During Training: 2%)
Rowing is more than just arms—engage core and legs. Optimize your stroke technique and focus on maintaining a good rhythm. Utilize intervals, where you row at a high intensity for 500m, focusing on maintaining your form under fatigue. Remember, it’s all about finding the right stroke power! 🏆

Race Strategies:

Going into the next races, it’s time to implement some strategies to push performance closer to your potential:

Pacing Strategy: Start your race a little faster than your comfortable pace—don’t hold back! Trust your conditioning; your body can handle more than you think. Use your early running segments to build momentum, so you’re not scrambling toward the end.
Transition Efficiency: Your roxzone was a bit slower than average. During training, practice your transitions by performing movements directly after running. The quicker you can shift gears from running to an exercise, the better you’ll perform during the race.
Visualisation and Mental Toughness: Before the race, visualize each segment and how you will handle it. Focus on mindset—remember to keep pushing even when the muscles scream at you! “When you think you’re done, you’re only at 40% of your entire body’s capability.” That's a Goggins 101!

Conclusion:

Imogen, you’ve got a fantastic foundation to propel you further in the Hyrox arena! Keep your eyes on the next relevant races: tangent towards the BYD HYROX Sydney on July 1st, 2026, and the HYROX APAC Championships in Brisbane a week later. Use this time to refine those techniques and attack those weaker segments. Your potential is through the roof! “You are what you repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Keep showing up and putting in the work, and you’ll surprise yourself with what you can achieve. And remember, if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you. Let's grab these goals and crush them! 💪
